Egg prices have dipped below the government-fixed rate, selling at Tk10.83 apiece, a Tk2 reduction from August’s peak. However, sugar and rice prices are on the rise, with sugar hitting Tk 145-150 per kg, up by Tk10 in, despite a recent import duty cut.
The scarcity of sugar at regulated prices is causing inconvenience for consumers. Meanwhile, rice prices have increased by Tk1-6, with medium rice (Bri 28) now selling at Tk54-55 per kg, compared to Tk48-50 last week. The wholesale price of sugar per 50 kg sack surged by Tk450 in a week, reaching Tk6,850. A year ago, sugar was priced at Tk110-115 per kg. The upward trend in rice prices is attributed to increased wholesale costs.
