The Matarbari coal-based power plant in Cox’s Bazar received 65,000 tonnes of coal from Indonesia, marking the 11th shipment. Project Director Abul Kalam Azad stated that the vessel, en route since November 1, 2023, will take about a week to unload. The power plant already has 200,000 tonnes of coal in storage, supporting its two units with a capacity of 1,200 MW each. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the commercial production of the first unit on November 11. With a daily demand of 5,000 tonnes, the current coal supply, including the recent shipment, can sustain power generation for 53 days. This follows the October 26 arrival of the last shipment from Indonesia.
