United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) has recently entered into two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) and the Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU). The MoUs were signed at UCB’s corporate office in Dhaka by The Deputy Managing Director of the bank, along with The Professor of the Department of Agronomy at BAU, and Chief Scientific Officer and Head of Entomology Division at BARI.
The first project, in collaboration with BARI, focuses on upscaling bio-rational-based insect pest management technologies for safe vegetable production. The second project, in partnership with BAU, involves the evaluation of sugarcane-based intercropping and stress-tolerant rice varieties in the saline-prone Sandwip Island of Bangladesh. These initiatives aim to enhance crop productivity, introduce climate-resilient practices, and provide training to farmers in adopting sustainable agricultural methods in Sandwip Island.
