The price of beef in Dhaka has experienced a sudden drop by Tk 130 to Tk 230 per kg within the last two weeks of November 2023. Currently, retailers are selling beef for Tk 550 to Tk 650 per kg, a significant decrease from Tk 780 to Tk 800 per kg recorded two weeks ago. Despite this reduction, some areas like Mailbag, Rampura, and Badda continue to charge Tk 700 to Tk 720 per kg.
Cattle farmers claim that the price decrease is due to butchers refraining from excessive profits, while butchers attribute it to lower meat quality. Buyers are questioning the sudden drop in meat prices and expressing concerns about meat quality. Market data from the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) indicates that beef is currently sold at Tk 730 to Tk 750 per kg in Dhaka markets, down from Tk 750 to Tk 780 per kg a week ago.
