Bangladesh’s Summit Group is in the final stages of discussions with the government for a 15-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply deal, aiming to provide approximately 1.5 million tonnes annually from 2026. The move addresses the nation’s rising demand for LNG amid depleting natural gas resources and a challenging power crisis.
Summit emphasized the critical role of LNG in sustaining Bangladesh’s economic growth, especially considering the prevailing difficult circumstances. The country has recently grappled with increased fuel costs and secured a $4.7 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund. Summit anticipates a surge in annual LNG imports, reaching 8-9 million tonnes by 2027 and 10-12 million tonnes by 2030.
