Chattogram experienced a turnaround in November with a 7.11% surge in export container handling, reaching 57,560 TEUs, and a 3.59% increase in import containers, totaling 1,07,363 TEUs. This positive trend follows months of decline and signals a potential strong year-end performance for the port.
Despite ongoing challenges with dollar availability and LC issuance, the gradual easing of the dollar crunch, attributed to the Russia-Ukraine war, is driving improved container handling. While export container handling for the year until November shows a 13.80% decline, port officials express cautious optimism, anticipating further growth in trade activities as the global trade slowdown improves. Chattogram port plays a significant role, handling 92% of the country’s import and export trade.
