A joint venture between China’s CREC International Renewable Energy Company and Bangladesh’s BR Powergen Limited will establish a solar power company producing 100 MW in Jamalpur’s Motherganj on 300 acres of land. The project, with 70% ownership by the Chinese company and 30% by BR Powergen Limited, involves a 20-year contract. The Cabinet Secretary, Md. Mahbub Hossain, announced the initiative, highlighting the significance of the solar power plant. Additionally, the Cabinet approved the draft of the ‘Marine Tourism Policy 2023’ for Bay of Bengal-based tourism development, including plans for sea travel for Hajids and the construction of jetties at various seaports. Bilateral agreements for aircraft movement between Bangladesh and European Union (EU) countries were also approved, along with a cultural cooperation agreement with Kosovo.
