The National Board of Revenue (NBR) aims to enhance revenue collection by establishing 20 new tax zones, four specialized units, and four appellate wings. After an 11-year delay, the government recently approved this expansion plan, aligning with modern IT-based practices.
NBR Chairman emphasizes the initiative’s role in modernizing income tax administration, and supporting domestic revenue sources. The first phase involves setting up 10 tax zones and three specialized units in Dhaka. The second phase includes nine tax zones in various locations and two specialized units in Chattogram. In the third phase, appellate units will be established in Dhaka, Chattogram, and Rangpur, along with a tax zone in Pabna. Additionally, a specialized international tax unit is planned for Dhaka.
