The Bangladesh Poultry Association, in collaboration with the National Directorate of Consumer Protection, inaugurated an affordable eggs and chicken market in Shanir Akhra, Dhaka. The market aims to reduce middlemen interference, providing consumers with farm-direct poultry products. Direct sourcing from farms is expected to lower prices compared to traditional markets. The Directorate General of Consumer Protection emphasized that the initiative addresses issues in the marketing system that often lead to sudden increases in chicken and egg prices. The market’s goal is to break syndicates and support marginal farmers by offering affordable poultry feed. On the first day, 1,200 kg of broiler chickens and 7,000 eggs were sold, with expectations of increased sales in the future.
