The Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) has gained approval from the National Seed Board for the release of two new high-yielding rice varieties suitable for the Boro season. BRRI dhan107, with proper management and a conducive environment, can potentially yield 9.57 tonnes per hectare, exceeding its 8.19-tonne potential.
It has an average plant height of 103 centimeters and a growth duration of 143 days. Additionally, BRRI dhan108, a premium-quality Balam type high-yielding Boro rice variety, boasts an average yield of 8.7 tonnes per hectare, surpassing BRRI dhan100 by 1.0 to 1.5 tonnes per hectare. With excellent physico-chemical characteristics, it aims to fetch better market prices for farmers.
