The price of flour has risen in Dhaka due to a shortage of wheat supply and higher international wheat prices. This has led to an increase in the price of packaged and loose refined flour. Packaged flour is now selling at Tk 55 to Tk 65 per kilogram, up from Tk 55 to Tk 60 per kilogram a week ago, while loose refined flour is selling at Tk 65 to Tk 70 per kilogram, compared to Tk 60 to Tk 70 per kilogram previously. The price of packaged flour has increased by 4.35 % per kilogram, and loose refined flour by 3.85% per kilogram. The annual demand for wheat in Bangladesh is 70-75 lakh tonnes, with 85 percent met through imports. Wheat prices have risen in the international market, and global shipping companies are rerouting vessels to avoid the Red Sea, leading to increased shipping time and freight costs.
