Bangladesh’s import of consumer-oriented products, including dairy, fruits, nuts, spices, and soup, has surged, reaching $2 billion in 2022, up from $1.5 billion in 2018, according to a report by the US Department of Agriculture. Dairy products, fresh fruits, spices, fresh vegetables, soup, and tree nuts constituted around 90% of total consumer-oriented product imports.
The rise is attributed to increased demand from the growing middle class, urbanization, and changing lifestyles. The report notes prospects for steady growth in consumer-oriented products in Bangladesh, driven by rising per-capita income, urbanization, increased female labor force participation, and lifestyle changes. Bangladesh mostly imports such products from India, New Zealand, China, South Africa, Singapore, the US, and the EU.
