Income tax collection by the government in the first half (July-December) of the current fiscal year 2023-24 marked a significant increase of 15.82% compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) reported a collection of Tk51,824 crore during this period, surpassing the Tk44,742 crore recorded in the previous fiscal year.
Despite the positive growth, the collection fell short of the set target by around Tk8,500 crore, with a target of Tk60,417 crore. Experts express skepticism about achieving the ambitious target, emphasizing the need to curb tax evasion and expedite the resolution of pending income tax cases.
