In the second quarter to December 2023, Power Grid Company of Bangladesh recorded a profit of Tk 817 million, a significant rebound compared to a loss of Tk 3.93 billion in the same period of 2022. The company attributed the recovery to reduced foreign exchange losses, lower administrative costs, and increased interest income.
Despite a rise in long-term loans, finance expenses dropped by 81% year-on-year. The company’s half-yearly performance, however, remained in the red due to heavy losses in the first quarter of 2023. Power Grid, a subsidiary of the Bangladesh Power Development Board, faced a record annual loss in FY23 due to exchange rate volatility. The company’s stock price rose by 6.5% following the positive financial results.
