The National Board of Revenue (NBR) plans to provide tax relief to landowners by designating the source tax on compensation for government land acquisition as a final settlement. Currently, a source tax of 6% and 3% is imposed on the compensation, depending on the area, with an additional capital gains tax of 15%. The NBR’s Income Tax Department aims to eliminate the need for additional tax payments by finalizing the tax deducted at source. A Statutory Regulatory Order is expected to be issued soon to implement this change, offering tax relief to those receiving compensation for land acquisition.
