The government has approved the import of 34,000 tonnes of potatoes through the Hili landport from India to address the surge in potato prices. In an effort to control the rising cost of potatoes, 49 approved traders will commence importing the vegetables. The current retail price of potatoes stands at Tk40-45 per kg, deemed unusually high for this period. The decision to allow imports aims to stabilize prices before Ramadan. The import initiative is anticipated to bring down potato prices in the market once the Indian potatoes are made available.
