The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has implemented measures to ease the burden on consumers during Ramadan. Import tariffs on essential goods have been adjusted: customs duty on rice has been eliminated, and regulatory duty reduced from 25% to 5%. Additionally, VAT on edible oil has been lifted. The specific duty on raw sugar imports has been lowered to Tk 1,000 per tonne from Tk 1,500, while import duty on dates has been reduced to 15% from 25%. These adjustments aim to bolster the supply and control prices of these commodities during the fasting month, effective immediately.
