Gas supply in Bangladesh is poised to increase as Summit LNG Terminal Co Ltd, a subsidiary of Summit Group, prepares to restart LNG regasification operations after a two-month hiatus. The floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) underwent its first overhaul since starting operations in 2019. Once operational, the FSRU will augment the country’s LNG regasification capacity to around 1,100mmcfd. Despite capacity constraints, the government has intensified spot LNG imports due to falling prices. Additionally, long-term LNG suppliers from the Gulf region continue deliveries. Excelerate Energy’s FSRU-Excellence operates above its official capacity to bolster gas supply. With enhanced capacity, Bangladesh’s natural gas supply stands at approximately 2,675mmcfd, yet significant unmet demand persists, particularly from industries.
