Agricultural credit disbursement in Bangladesh decreased by 27.75% in December 2023 compared to December 2022, attributed to reduced lending by foreign commercial banks and some local ones. The FY24 target is Tk350 billion, a 13.60% increase from FY23. Scheduled banks disbursed Tk183.26 billion in the first half of FY24, covering 52.36% of the target. Recovery reached Tk177.79 billion, up by 8.22% from the previous year. Outstanding agricultural credit rose to Tk553.95 billion by December 2023. Microcredit by Grameen Bank and large NGOs amounted to Tk174.67 billion, with Tk169.61 billion recovered by December 2023. Crop sub-sector accounted for 45.0% of total disbursements in July-December FY24. Livestock, poultry, and fisheries sectors followed. This indicates a shift from the previous year’s pattern, where crops dominated at 48.0%.
