Rice prices in Bangladesh have surged, with wholesale prices increasing by Tk2 to Tk6 per kg due to a decline in paddy supply and rising transportation costs. Coarse rice varieties like Swarna and Chinese IRRI now range from Tk46 to Tk47 per kg wholesale, up from Tk42 to Tk43. Medium-quality rice types have risen from Tk48-Tk50 to Tk53-Tk55 per kg. Retail prices have also climbed, with Swarna and Chinese IRRI selling at Tk52-Tk53 per kg, and medium-quality rice types at Tk55-Tk57. Fine rice varieties now cost Tk64-Tk80 per kg. The shortage of paddy has driven prices up, with good quality paddy reaching Tk1,450 per maund, up from Tk1,350. Transportation costs have also increased, with truck fares rising from Tk16,000-Tk17,000 to Tk23,000-Tk24,000.
