In Hili of Dinajpur, the price of onions has dropped by 20 rupees per kg in just two days. This decrease is due to an increase in onion imports from India and a rise in domestic onion supply. Traders predict that if the supply continues, prices will further decrease. At Hili Bazaar, onions were previously being sold for Tk 60-65, but now they are priced at Tk 40-45. This decline in prices has been beneficial for low-income individuals. Recent government-approved imports of 50,000 tonnes of onions from India have contributed to the increase in supply, leading to a reduction in prices from over Tk 4000 per maund to between Tk 1500-600 in Mokam.
