14,400 Farmers in Jashore to Receive Subsidies to Cultivate Ayush

Recent floods in Bangladesh have caused significant agricultural losses estimated at Tk3,346 crore, affecting 1.4 million farmers. The most severe impact was on paddy production, with losses of Tk2,519 crore, and extensive damage to 291,333 hectares of paddy fields and 19,680 hectares of Aman paddy seedbeds.

Recent floods in southeast and other parts of Bangladesh have severely impacted agriculture, devastating key staple crops like rice across 23 districts. The Agriculture Ministry's initial report estimates a loss of 1 million tonnes of crops, valued at Tk 34 billion. Of the 1.43 million hectares of farmland affected, over 26% have been flooded, with 0.21 million hectares potentially seeing total crop loss. Aus and Aman rice, as well as vegetables and fruit gardens, have also suffered significant damage.

Recent floods in Bangladesh, triggered by heavy rains and a monsoon depression in the Bay of Bengal, have severely damaged crops in 12 districts. The floods have impacted Aman and Aush paddy, seedbeds, and vegetables, leading to an estimated reduction of 8.5 lakh tonnes in rice production. Affected areas include 2,91,033 hectares of paddy fields and 19,680 hectares of Aman seedbeds, along with 3,39,382 hectares of various crops and vegetables.

Prime Bank PLC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Syngenta Bangladesh Limited to offer mortgage-free overdraft loans to Syngenta’s distributors. The agreement enables distributors to access up to BDT 1 crore in financing.

Scientists have developed heat-tolerant rice varieties to mitigate the severe impact of rising temperatures on rice production in Bangladesh. This innovation targets the disruption of the grain-filling process caused by high night temperatures, which results in significant yield losses.
