The government’s net domestic borrowing saw a significant decrease of 65% in the first seven months of the current fiscal year, dropping to Tk 149.1 billion compared to Tk 427.17 billion in the same period last year. However, economists highlight that gross borrowing remains substantial, considering repayments. Revenue collection by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) increased by 15% year-on-year, totaling Tk 1.98 trillion from July to January. This enhanced revenue mobilization has helped in budget financing, with 48% of the revised target of Tk 4.1 trillion achieved in the seven months. While the government continues to borrow for debt repayments, private-sector borrowing is also on the rise, growing by 9.96% in February.
