Three new solar power plants in the private sector are currently undergoing the approval process from the government in Bangladesh. These plants include a 100 MW facility in Banshkhali, Chattogram, a 300 MW plant in Islampur, Jamalpur, and another 100 MW plant in Sadar Upazila, Rajbari district.
The development of these solar power plants involves various consortiums, with different companies participating in each project. For the Banshkhali plant, the Consortium of Huiheng Wind Power Limited from Hong Kong and Jupiter Energy Ltd. from Bangladesh will be involved. The Islampur plant will be set up by the SAL-GTECH Consortium, while the Rajbari plant will be developed by a consortium consisting of Sungrow Renewable Energy Investment Pte. Ltd. and Theia Power (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.
The proposals for these projects have been submitted by the Power Division to the Cabinet Division for consideration by the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP). If approved, the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) will proceed to sign power purchase agreements with the consortiums.
