Before the end of the production season, potato prices surge in Bangladesh. The government reports coarse rice priced at Tk 50-52/kg, while potatoes now reach Tk 50/kg, rising to Tk 55-60/kg in some areas. Wholesale prices hover around Tk 48-50/kg, but retail vendors sell at higher rates due to limited shop openings. Prices have risen by Tk 4-5/kg post-Eid. The Bangladesh Cold Storage Association predicts potatoes will cost over Tk 50/kg this year, nearly double last year’s prices. Despite government permission, limited potato imports occur due to high prices in neighboring countries. Some small quantities are imported, with potatoes from India stored in Rajshahi cold storages before Eid.
