The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has decided to conduct information system audits into Grameenphone and Robi Axiata, dating back to 2015, and has formed committees to initiate the process of appointing auditors. The objective of these audits is to ensure that the equipment and processes within these telecom operators adhere to the commission’s guidelines, ensuring compliance with rules and regulations, including revenue verification to ensure the government receives its rightful share.
Despite unsettled claims from previous audits, which included demands of Tk 12,579 crore from Grameenphone and Tk 867 crore from Robi, the decision to conduct new audits has been made. These previous audits, covering the period up to December 2014, resulted in disputes between the operators and the BTRC. Both Grameenphone and Robi contested the claims, stating they did not evade any taxes, leading to legal battles.
