The resumption of regasification by Summit LNG Terminal Co’s floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) has led to an increase in the country’s overall gas supply from gas-fired power plants. After resolving a technical glitch following its overhaul in Singapore, Summit’s FSRU has resumed regasification, contributing to improved gas supply in Bangladesh.
As of April 12, Summit’s FSRU has reached around 90% of its regasification capacity, providing approximately 450 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of natural gas. Combined with another FSRU owned by Excelerate Energy, the country’s overall LNG regasification capacity has reached around 936 mmcfd, significantly boosting the supply of natural gas to power plants.
This increase in regasification capacity has allowed Petrobangla, the state-run entity responsible for natural gas supply, to provide approximately 1,180 mmcfd of natural gas to power plants, up from around 900 mmcfd last week. As a result, the power supply situation in the country has improved, leading to a reduction in load-shedding.
