50 companies have been granted permission to import a total of 124,000 metric tons of parboiled and parboiled rice privately under market control. The Food Ministry sent a letter to the Commerce Ministry requesting this on April 16. The permission includes importing 91,000 tons of parboiled rice and 33,000 tons of parboiled rice, with a maximum of 5 percent broken grains allowed. Importers must sell all rice in Bangladesh by May 15 and report the quantity, storage, and varieties to the district food controller. No IP permits can be issued in excess of the allotment and imported rice cannot be repackaged. The rice must be sold in the imported sacks. Previously, on March 21, 30 companies were given permission to import 83,000 metric tons of parboiled and parboiled rice privately.
