Edible oil refiners are seeking a Tk 10 per litre price hike due to the expiration of a VAT reduction, with soybean oil bottles set to cost Tk 173/litre, five-litre bottles Tk 845, and unpackaged palm oil Tk 132/litre. The VAT reduction, in effect since February 7, had lowered prices by Tk 10, aiming to ease costs during Ramadan until April 15. However, global oil prices surged by 11-13%, potentially impacting local markets. Negotiations with India for year-round essential goods imports are ongoing, while the government aims to rationalize tariffs to alleviate market prices. No decision has been made regarding beef or cattle imports from Brazil.
