A recent surge in temperatures reaching 42.6 degrees Celsius has prompted a significant rise in air conditioner (AC) sales across the country. Officials report a 20-30 percent increase in AC purchases compared to normal times, with sales particularly booming for residential units. Major AC manufacturers and marketers note a spike in sales volume, with sales outpacing last year’s figures. In Dhaka alone, sales centers have witnessed a surge, with some outlets reporting a monthly sales volume being surpassed within a week. The increased demand has led to heightened production, with companies like Walton Hitech Industries increasing AC production by about 30 percent. Prices have seen a slight increase due to factors like the dollar crisis, with some models experiencing a price hike of Tk 500 to Tk 2,000. Despite this, companies are offering various incentives such as discounts and money-back guarantees to attract buyers. With temperatures expected to remain high until early May, sellers anticipate continued strong demand for AC units in the coming weeks.
