In an online press conference organized by the Joint Initiative of Coastal Life and Environment Action Alliance (CLEAN) and Bangladesh Environment and Development Action Alliance (BWGED), speakers denounced Landco’s plan to purchase land for solar power installation in Tentulia upazila of Panchagarh. They emphasized that according to government regulations, solar power facilities cannot be built on lands used for growing two or more crops, rendering Landco’s plan illegal.
Concerns were raised about Landco’s tactics, including purchasing land for one purpose but using it for another, intimidation tactics, and occupying more land than purchased. The speakers also criticized Landco for violating human rights by forcefully occupying and evicting farmers’ lands despite government directives against building structures on agricultural land.
