Dry chilli imports through Bhomra land port in Satkhira increased by 5,345 tons from July to March of the fiscal year 2023-24, totaling 43,132 tons valued at Tk 1,086.8 crore. This marks a significant rise from the previous fiscal year’s 37,787 tons valued at Tk 923.6 crore. Despite the surge in imports, dry chilli prices in local markets remain stable, with consumers experiencing no significant impact. Traders attribute this discrepancy to most imports being distributed outside the district. Although importers note an increase in shipments, traders are still selling dry chillies at the same price as one-and-a-half months ago. Agriculture officials express concern over the lack of price reduction despite increased imports and pledge to investigate the matter further.
