Padma Bank (formerly Farmers Bank) faced a significant fraud, wherein loans were approved and disbursed without customer consent. Four bank officials have been sentenced to 44 years in prison and fined Tk 1 crore 57 lakh. Despite this, the accused are absconding, and the bank is harassing customers with legal action. The Anti-Corruption Commission’s investigation revealed forged signatures and unauthorized loan disbursements. The bank’s responsibility cannot be avoided, and analysts urge exemplary action to prevent such incidents. The fraud, dating back to 2017, has affected numerous customers. Although Padma Bank has absorbed Farmers Bank, customers continue to suffer.
