In Dhaka’s kitchen markets, prices surged due to low supply exacerbated by the heatwave. Broiler chicken prices rose by Tk25-30/kg, reaching Tk215-220/kg. Sonali chicken prices increased by Tk40/kg to Tk400/kg. Marginal chicken farmers faced losses due to heat-related chicken deaths, leading to increased supply initially but now falling short of demand. Eggs sold for Tk120/dozen, with wholesale prices rising by Tk50 to Tk840/100 eggs. Onions saw a Tk5/kg increase, priced at Tk70/kg.Garlic prices rose by Tk20/kg, reaching Tk235/kg. Various vegetables like bitter gourd and potatoes increased by Tk5/kg due to supply disruptions from heavy rain. Essential items’ prices surged over the last month: coarse rice by 4%, selling at Tk50-54/kg, local pulses by 1.89%, at Tk130-140/kg, and potatoes by 40%, reaching Tk50-55/kg. Bottled soybean oil prices rose by 0.62%, to Tk160-165/litre.
