Agricultural subsidies in Bangladesh have increased to Tk25,000 crore in the current fiscal, up by Tk8,000 crore from the initial budget. Tk600 crore has been allocated for agricultural rehabilitation assistance. Despite lower international fertiliser prices, domestic prices rose due to increased costs, leading to increased subsidies. The demand for fertilisers includes 27 lakh tonnes of urea, 7.5 lakh tonnes of TSP, 16 lakh tonnes of DAP, and 9 lakh tonnes of MOP, with significant imports. Budget reports show consistent increases in subsidy allocations over the years, with a notable jump in FY 2022-23. Tk600 crore is allocated for agricultural rehabilitation, with Tk530 crore for fertilisers, seeds, and saplings, and Tk70 crore for grants, aiming to mitigate losses from natural disasters.
