Bangladesh Bank has been reluctant to disclose various key financial indicators, including interest rates on product-based LCs, industrial loans, SME loans, and bank-based loan-deposits. Some crucial information has not been updated for almost two years, while some data has not been disclosed for one to six months.
For instance, Bangladesh Bank has not released information on product-based imports through LCs for almost two years, with the last update published in July 2022. Similarly, data on bank-based deposits and loans have not been updated for the last six months, with the latest information released in October 2023. Moreover, the central bank has ceased publishing data on industrial loans and SME loans since the first quarter of 2023, and information on the amount of deposits and loans in the banking sector has not been disclosed since February. This lack of transparency has raised concerns among experts.
