The Hallmark scam, involving misappropriation of Tk 2,686 crore, has led to the initiation of criminal proceedings. Sonali Bank is moving to sell off Hallmark Group’s mortgaged properties to recover the losses. Despite challenges in selling the properties due to their high value, the bank plans to divide them into smaller pieces for sale. Various properties, including an industrial park in Savar and space in Rokeya Sarani, are being considered for sale. The bank’s efforts to recover funds also involve clearing properties and arranging auctions. With multiple cases ongoing, including criminal and financial, related to the scam, the bank has recovered Tk 587 crore so far. Bangladesh Bank’s decision to deduct Tk 892 crore from Sonali Bank in connection with the scam has led to legal action from Sonali Bank, contesting the decision.
