Grameenphone is set to discontinue its 3G services, as announced through messages sent to customers on Thursday. The message advises customers to upgrade to 4G SIM cards from retailers by May 10 to ensure uninterrupted internet access.
Operators are mandated to inform the Telecom Regulatory Authority and customers 90 days prior to terminating 3G services. Grameenphone’s application to stop 3G services received approval in the BTRC’s 275th commission meeting last year. Officials disclosed that Grameenphone operates 6,429 3G sites, with the highest concentration in Chittagong Division. Following Grameenphone, Robi applied to halt 3G services, while Banglalink has already discontinued its 3G services this week.
