The National Board of Revenue (NBR) of Bangladesh has provided significant exemptions on income and corporate taxes amounting to an estimated Tk 1,25,813 crore, which is approximately 3.56% of the country’s GDP. These exemptions are aimed at providing relief to individual taxpayers and promoting private sector growth and industrialization.
Of this total amount, Tk 40,498 crore is exempted at the individual taxpayers’ level, while Tk 85,314 crore is incentivized at the corporate level. The NBR’s income tax wing has compiled this data to rationalize tax expenditure for the upcoming budget, aligning with the conditions of a $4.7 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
