The government aims to bolster Bangladesh’s energy supply and consumption to align with its goal of becoming a developed country by 2041. To achieve this, an allocation of Tk 40,751.86 crore is expected for the comprehensive development of the power and energy sector in FY2024-25, constituting 15.38% of the total allocation.
However, this allocation would be Tk 3,641.14 crore less than the allocation for the current financial year of 2023-24, according to Ministry of Planning sources. In FY24, Tk 44,393 crore was allocated for the power and energy sector in the Annual Development Programme, accounting for 16.88 % of the total.
To address the growing fuel demand, the Finance Minister is expected to announce in his FY25 national budget speech next month plans to drill 48 wells under BAPEX, a subsidiary of Petrobangla. Additionally, various geological and seismic surveys have been conducted to identify potential resources.
