The Bangladesh Oil, Gas, and Mineral Corporation, along with the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and their distribution companies, collectively owe a significant debt of Tk 54,775 crore to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) due to unpaid taxes over several years. This substantial amount has accumulated due to financial constraints faced by these entities.
In a bid to address this issue, NBR, in collaboration with its field offices, convened a meeting with Petrobangla, BPC, and their distribution companies. The meeting, chaired by the NBR Chairman, aimed to devise a strategy for clearing the outstanding dues.
Both parties agreed to clear the dues through book transfer payment, requiring necessary fund allocation from the finance ministry or book adjustment in favour of these companies. Clearing these dues would significantly boost NBR’s revenue collection by around Tk 55,000 crore, contributing to meeting the International Monetary Fund’s conditions for the upcoming fiscal year.
