Due to US President Donald Trump’s decision to halt foreign aid, over 1,000 staff members at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research (icddr,b) in Bangladesh have lost their jobs. The affected employees were primarily working on USAID-funded projects and were employed on a contractual basis. As a result of this funding cut, icddr,b has suspended several projects and research activities under USAID until further notice. Senior Manager AKM Tariful Islam Khan confirmed the layoffs and expressed regret over the disruption caused to employees, service recipients, and stakeholders. The organization hopes to resume activities once the funding situation is resolved.
