Poultry farmers call on govt to set prices

Industry: Agriculture & Livestock, Poultry & Livestock
Industry Intelligence Tag: Industry insights

Marginal poultry farmers have requested the government to set a reasonable price for poultry products and to properly oversee the industry to protect them. They blamed the price hike in feed broiler chicken by roughly 160% in a single month on corporate companies. Even the syndicate increased the price of feed by Tk 3,500 per 50kg sack in a year from Tk 2,200-2,300.

At a news conference held on Monday at Dhaka Reporter’s Unity, Bangladesh Chicken Association (BPA) said, by stopping the production of all broiler chicken, eggs, and feeds immediately, the government should dismantle the syndicate. Due to rising feed and broiler chicken prices, the production costs were now Tk 11.11 per egg, Tk 148 per kilogram, and Tk 262 per kilogram for Sonali hens.

According to the BPA, corporate companies received Tk 105 crore through syndication in the previous week. However, thousands of small-scale poultry producers are being forced to shut down their operations.
