Bangladesh’s power sector has seen substantial growth with increasing private and foreign investments. However, private power generation capacity is concentrated in the hands of a few major groups or companies. A report from the Power Development Board (PDB) reveals that 10 groups or companies, including Summit Group, control a total capacity of 10,228 MW. Summit Group leads with 14 power plants, followed by Payra Power Plant (1,244 MW) and Rampal Power Plant (1,234 MW). Other major contributors include United Group, Orion Group, Doreen Group, Confidence Group, and Baraka Group. The dominance of a handful of entities raises considerations about the sector’s diversification and competitive landscape.
