The government plans to provide 2.27 crore farmers with smart cards to provide incentives and other services. The Agriculture Secretary announced the initiative during a regional workshop on the Program on Agriculture and Rural Transformation for Nutrition Entrepreneurship and Resilience in Bangladesh (PARTNER). The smart cards will enable farmers to purchase agricultural inputs, conduct transactions, and access bank loans.
The program will also benefit 40% of women. The project will also cultivate new rice varieties, pulses, oil, vegetables, and fruits on two lakh hectares of land, and one lakh hectares of land will be covered with new irrigation technology.
