Imports of green chillies, tomatoes, and roe-katla fish through Jessore’s Benapole land port have increased, with 230 metric tons of green chillies, 1,656 tons of tomatoes, and 1,026 tons of fish imported from August 1 to 8. However, overall trade through the port has decreased. The continuous import of green chillies has slightly lowered their price in Jessore’s retail markets, now at Tk 150-160 per kg, down from over Tk 200. Trade between Bangladesh and India was suspended for three days after the government’s resignation but resumed on August 8. On the first day back, 304 trucks of goods were imported, and 164 were exported, though fewer trucks are crossing the border due to security concerns, with only 230 trucks at Petrapole and 50 at Benapole, compared to normal volumes.
