Flood victims could receive over 300 crore tk in relief assistance from 61 public and private banks if each bank contributes 5 crore tk, totaling 305 crore tk. In 2023, the banking sector allocated 924 crore tk for corporate social responsibility, with 271.19 crore tk directed towards disaster management. Despite significant past contributions to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, current bank participation in flood relief is limited. Notable contributions include Prime Bank’s 2 crore tk, BRAC Bank’s 5 crore tk, and NRBC Bank’s 1 crore tk, with some banks also donating one day’s salary. Individual banks, such as Dhaka Bank, Islami Bank Bangladesh, and Social Islami Bank, have already contributed amounts ranging from 4.92 million to 73.6 million tk. The Association of Bankers Bangladesh (ABB) has allocated 2 crore tk for relief and is urging all banks to participate. The ABB Chairman expects more banks to join the relief efforts within the week.
