A TIB survey revealed widespread corruption in Bangladesh’s service sectors, with 70.9% of households facing issues like bribery and harassment. Passport, BRTA, and law enforcement services had the highest corruption rates, with bribes averaging Tk 5,680. Public service bribery totaled Tk 10,902 crore in 2023. Rural areas reported slightly higher bribery rates (52.4%) than urban areas (47.4%). Most households (91.5%) did not file complaints, citing lack of awareness about grievance mechanisms. TIB recommended digitizing services, implementing one-stop centers, updating citizen charters, and strengthening complaint systems to curb corruption. Legal action against offenders was also emphasized.
