The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide up to $1 billion in budget support to Bangladesh by June, contingent on several reforms. Of this, $500 million is allocated for banking sector reforms, requiring a reduction in private bank directors’ tenure and number, reversing amendments made between 2013-2023 under political pressure. Another $300-$500 million is designated for climate change mitigation, with at least 16 conditions. These include implementing the Updated National Strategy for Pourashava Governance (2026-2035), the Revised Strategic Transport Masterplan for Dhaka (2025-2041) promoting MRT and BRT, and a Disaster and Climate Risk Information Platform covering 250 of 500 upazilas. The agriculture ministry must fulfill 20% of National Adaptation Plan priorities, integrate AI into early warning systems, and develop climate-proof farmlands. Additionally, the National Urban Policy (2025) must be approved to enhance waste management and biodiversity conservation. The interim government aims to secure low-interest loans to implement these policies.
