The implementation rate of Bangladesh’s Annual Development Programme (ADP) in July-August of this fiscal year hit a 12-year low due to cautious government spending and political disruptions. The government allocated Tk 278,288 crore for the ADP, a 9.6% increase from last year’s revised budget. However, only 2.57% was implemented, compared to 3.84% during the same period last year and 4.48% during the pandemic. Tk 7,143 crore was spent, significantly less than the Tk 10,542 crore spent last year. Political turmoil, contractor departures, and limited spending by ministries contributed to the slow pace. Experts urge project revision and prioritization of foreign-funded projects to address these challenges.
